In 1932 Nicolau takes the ultimate leap to the national elite and becomes on of the most important cyclists. His victories lead him to the France Tour. Insularity and sponsorship are weaknesses that will be needed to tackle to overcome this new challenge.

Nicolau in the German Tour?

In February the Catalan and local press talk about the letter received by Nicolau from Mariano Cañardo to join the group which will participate in the next German Tour in May. Cañardo wants him to join his team with other cyclists and asks his permission to negotiate the economic conditions of his participation. Undoubtedly, Nicolau agrees and awaits further news from the Olite cyclist.

The controversial mutual bets in cycling

Miquel Jaume Panxó, Miquel Jaume Panxó, along with other cyclists such as Nicolau, participate in the race at the Cap Blanc velodrome, which was unauthorised by the UVE (the old Spanish Velocipede Union). The disagreements between the current federation, UVE and the clubs becomes very obvious in February 28th at the Llucmajor velodrome. First, because of the lack of authorisation, and second, for allowing mutual bets, which are only permitted in other sports in the island.

Absolute victory in a strange Mallorca Tour II

After the controversy during the first stage of the Tour II, in which Flaquer suffers an attack which takes away the possibility of racing against Nicolau, the enthusiasts from Artà hold a grudge against Nicolau, who is also attacked by throwing a fig tree branch at him to make him fall off the bicycle. Finally, Nicolau gets the victory in the general ranking.

Lighting arrives at Tirador

Another aspect to consider is the electrification and lighting of Tirador: the competition between Nicolau and Flaquer on June 11th is the first race of the night-time season, a huge event in Palma. The night-time season is completely broadening the program, since the amateur races can take place in the evening and delay the grand races until night time.

Serious accident during the fourth stage of the Tour of Catalonia

Nicolau suffers a serious accident during the second stage (between Reus and Tortosa) in the 14th Tour of Catalonia. After his fall, the wounds are so deep that he must be driven by ambulance to make him the first cures. However, with effort and confidence he gets to finish the race.

Nicolau’s resurrection

With only four training sessions, after spending twenty days in hospital, Nicolau participates in the long-distance road race Balearic Islands Championship in 1932 on December 18th , when he gets a brilliant victory.
